It is my goal, every time I shoot, to create lasting, unique, professional images that empower, encourage, and build confidence in my subjects.
I’ve been a math teacher at Kirkwood High School since 1991 and served as the boy’s Varsity basketball coach from 1996 to 2006. It was during my last several years of coaching that my passion for photography blossomed. I was looking for a way to help my players remember this important time in their lives so I grabbed my camera. Early attempts didn’t quite look like the images in Sports Illustrated, so I signed up for a workshop with Sports Illustrated photographers and learned how to light with strobes. I had other students playing various sports, so I started shooting their games and posting the photos in my classroom. The photos were well-received and I was encouraged to create a website where families could purchase the photos.
Sports photos led to sports posters, which led to several senior portrait session. Now I do sports posters for almost every Varsity team at KHS as well as several other area schools including Marquette, Eureka and Vashon. I love helping players feel empowered and proud of who they are and what they are accomplishing. I've come to enjoy senior sessions the most, as again I hope to help students create memories of this most import time in their lives. My years of teaching have allowed me to be comfortable around high school students and I make every effort to insure that they feel comfortable and confident around me as well. I want their session to be a fun and memorable experience while we create high quality and unique images. Senior session can be shot in just about any location; schools, homes, parks, or urban warehouse areas.
